BAR AND BAT MITZVAH
SUPPLEMENT
Unforgettable Bar Mitzvah Experience
Keshet Yonatan
offers a full-day program for families celebrating a bar or bat mitzvah
that culminates with an authentic and kosher Talmudic banquet in the
ancient village of Katzrin.
The banquet is
served by hosts and waiters in period costumes in the cooling shade of
lush fruit trees in an orchard. For evening banquets, the orchard is lit
with torches, just as it would have been during the days of the Talmud.
The meal features tasty delicacies that were popular in the Land of
Israel during the days of the Talmud. Fruits, herbs, and grains
indigenous to the Golan Heights are used to make a feast that is as
unique and memorable as it is delicious.
The day begins with
a guided tour of the Golan that can focus on ancient synagogues, natural
sites, or historic sites. The tour can include a hike or jeep excursion
and will be tailored specifically to the family’s interests.
Following the tour
is a two- or three-hour Outdoor Training workshop at Moshav Keshet. The
group (minimum of 20 participants) is divided into teams that must
complete a series of tasks on the wooden and rope structures and pools
at the training field. The tasks do not require any special physical
strength or agility – they do require, and help develop, teamwork,
creative thinking, and leadership and listening skills. The workshop is
appropriate for participants of various ages and is particularly suited
for a bar or bat mitzvah group, providing the youth with many
opportunities to demonstrate leadership and to appreciate how much he or
she can accomplish with the assistance of family and friends.

Next comes a visit
to the reconstructed Talmudic village of Katzrin, where the group is
welcomed by an actor in period costume. The visit can either begin with
the banquet, followed by a tour of the village and a bar mitzvah
ceremony, or end with an evening banquet after the activities.
The tour can be led
either by a guide or by the bar or bat mitzvah youth. The guide presents
questions and stories from the Mishnah and the Talmud and invites the
group to join the village residents in activities such as weaving,
building, and cooking. The tour includes attending a multimedia session
of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish council of sages. Other highlights are an
ancient oil press, a furnished home, and a reconstructed synagogue from
the Talmudic era. A traditional bar mitzvah ceremony can be held in the
synagogue.
