Six  years ago, Israel retreated from Southern Lebanon to the international
border - complying with all the whims and even wild interpretations of
where the border used to be, by the Hizbullah and the United Nations. The
withdrawal agreement, which was sponsored by the international community
and the United Nations, called for the cessation of all
hostilities from Lebanon, the dismantling of the Hizbullah in
Southern Lebanon, and the deployment of the Lebanese army along
the border between Lebanon and Israel.
                 In practice, none of
this happened. Instead, under the eyes of the United Nation forces and
with the full knowledge of the international community, the Hizbullah
took over southern Lebanon. The Hizbullah introduced thousands of rockets
into the area - all aimed at Israel, engaged in bombing villages and towns in the Galilee,
                launched attacks on Israeli
soldiers inside Israel, and kidnapped Israeli soldiers and
                civilians from Israeli soil.
                On Wednesday morning,
the Hizbullah opened fire on the Galilee, without any warning or
provocation, creating a diversion that allowed it to attack an
Israeli patrol, kill and wound soldiers, and
                kidnap two of them.
                This last provocation
is the straw that has broken the camel's back. The situation on the
Lebanese border cannot continue. While Beirut thrives and
becomes a popular tourist destination, the Galilee is devastated
time and time again.  The Hizbullah cannot continue to
attack Israel without retribution. This time the wrath of Israel
will be total.  Lebanon, the Hizbullah, Syria, Iran, and
the population of southern Lebanon are responsible for the
attacks on Israel. The time has come to dismantle the
infrastructure for these attacks on Israel, and those
responsible - from the population that supports the Hizbullah to
the Lebanese government - which the Hizbullah is part of - will
have to bear the consequences of their actions. |
